60,000 manufacturing jobs went unfilled in 2012. In an economy in which unemployment is high, that’s almost unthinkable. Yet the skills shortage in manufacturing remains one of the most significant challenges facing our industry.
ThomasNet is doing something about it.
With the goal of attracting bright young minds to careers in manufacturing, we recently introduced our North American Manufacturing Scholarship Program.
We’re teaming with the ThomasNet.com user community and our clients, as well as with parents and educators, to open the eyes of students to the opportunities and rewards of a career in today’s manufacturing industry.
Through the scholarship program, we will be awarding thirty $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are interested in engineering, supply chain management/business operations, or skilled trades and wish to study at a college (two-or four-year) or vocational-technical school.
You can help, and it’s easy. Here’s how:
- Sign up for any of our free IMT newsletters. For each new subscription, ThomasNet will make a contribution to the Scholarship Program (for a combined total of up to $30,000)
- Tell a deserving student to apply for the scholarship
- Or, simply spread the word to all who may share our commitment
Together, we can begin to change the perception of manufacturing careers, and start attracting the next generation of talent and leadership to our industry.
Thank you in advance for your support.
